Turning Dreams Into Realty!
The Rotary Club of South Anne Arundel County will host its 10th Annual Lights of Kindness charity event, a unique fund-raising contest, Friday, December 1 through Sunday, December 3 -- at Homestead Gardens, Davidsonville, MD.
In the spirit of the holiday season, the goal of the Lights of Kindness tree decoration contest is to raise funds for local charities, but also raise awareness of the efforts of sponsors and the charities to make our community a better place.
The Rotary Club is seeking area businesses to sponsor local non-profit charities to decorate a tree for the Lights of Kindness. To participate, businesses or other organizations should contact the Rotary Club, decide on a charity to support, their level of sponsorship, and work with a charity to decorate a tree. Sponsor businesses, and the charities they support, will be prominently identified.
The public may go online to vote for their favorite tree or noblest cause by contributing dollars for an equivalent number of votes. Every dollar donated counts as a vote, and benefits our local community. The community is encouraged to visit the Virtual Holiday Forest -- vote -- and enjoy this family oriented event. Online votes for a dollar each may be made beginning Thursday, November 30, at 6:00 PM.
For every vote a tree receives, half of the proceeds will be donated to the designated Charity and half will be donated to the South Anne Arundel County Rotary Foundation. A cash donation prize will be split among the Charities' top three decorated trees receiving the most votes. Proceeds will benefit the programs supported by the Rotary Foundation including: Bountiful Backpacks Program currently providing food for up to 160 elementary school children; the Dictionary Project; Haiti educational programs; the Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly; scholarships, and the Polio Plus program to eradicate the disease world-wide.
